What this will be

Writing about writing is a fairly popular pastime on the internet. I cannot promise that there will be none of that on this blog, but I can promise that there will not be much.

After over a decade in tech, I self-published a novel. On the one hand, this meant that I could build my own website and sales pipeline; on the other hand, this meant that I could build my own website and sales pipeline. This website, behind the scenes, is pretty overengineered, and I really enjoyed building it. I have taken a very DIY approach to everything, and through this blog, I will explain some of the things that I have learnt along the way.

A couple of topics that I intend to cover to begin with:

• Typesetting books yourself. Do we really need to pay somebody to do that these days?
• What is an eBook, behind the scenes?
• DRM. What does it do, and is it worth paying for?
• AI will scrape your website, and AI will end up with a copy of your book. How do you manage that?

A warning about consistency

This will be aimless. I want to be honest about that up front rather than opening with a schedule I have no intention of keeping. Posts will appear when I have something worth saying and a free evening.
